Personal life of Virender Sehwag


Virender Sehwag did his schooling from Arora Vidya School in Delhi. He is a pure vegetarian and is presently married to Aarti and has son named Aryavir. He owns a few restaurants and is associated with UNICEF for charity. He is also called as Viru or the Prince of Najafgarh.

Career as a National cricketer


While Virender Sehwag also knowns right-arm-spin bowling but he is more known as a ballistic right-handed opening batsmen. Before being inducted into the national squad Virender played for Delhi in various home matches. He played his first One Day International in 1999 and his first test in 2001. He was inducted into the National Indian Cricket team in 2001. He received the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World award in 2008 for his outstanding performance during the whole year.

His most revered performance was in Multan where in the test match he scored 319, which is highest for any Indian even now. For this achievement he is also known as "Multan ka Sultan" which means King of Multan. He also holds the record for making the fastest triple century and a few more records.

Virender Sehwag became the vice-captain for the first time in October 2005 under the captainship of Dravid and he had to again take up the vice-captainship for Tests and ODIs when Anil Kumble retired from the team in 2008.

Childhood and starting Career


His parents were not too supportive of his interest in Cricket. However Sehwag continued to follow his passion and played for Delhi in the year 1997-1998. This was when he was noticed for his performance for the first time. Soon he was selected from the North Zone for Duleep Trophy. His extra-ordinary performance won his a place in the under-19 team which toured South Africa. By his continued excellent performance he was soon noticed by selectors and made a member of the National Cricket team. Even after becoming a member of National Team he continued to play for Delhi and led the North Zone to victory for the period 2004-05 and 2005-2006. Sehwag won his first Man of the Match while playing against Australia in Banglore.

Sehwag was promoted as the opening batsmen during a Tri-Series with Sri Lanka and New Zealand due to Sachin's absence in August 2001. He scored a quick century and was awarded the Man of the Match.

Sehwag's style of play


Sehwag is often compared to Sachin due to similar playing style. Square and upper cuts are known specialties of Sehwag while he does not shy away from driving spin bowling inside out. He has an attacking style of play which suits the opening batting position more. However experts consider his aggressive batting where he strikes the ball in air quite dangerous.
